Great Wall Motors (GWM) — a leading automobile manufacturer headquartered in Baoding, Hebei, China — is looking to start its production line in Thailand in 2021 with an estimated capacity of 80,000 units a year.

GWM is also looking to improve and upgrade their automobile production lines to be capable of enhancing internal combustion engines and electric vehicles. Apart from the 80,000 annual production capacity estimated by the automobile maker, the company will also begin with producing sports utility vehicles and pickup trucks.
GWM in Thailand has registered capital of 22.6 billion baht (US$715.88 million) and will also aim to employ 3,435 people. Moreover, it also plans to manufacture key vehicle parts including batteries and transmissions for its electric vehicles.
The local content will form 45% of parts for its first model to be produced in Thailand, with this proportion increasing to 90% within 2025. Apart from that, GWM Thailand operation will also establish a hub for research and development in the Southeast Asia region.
