Proton X50 SUV — Four variants, Six colours, Level 2 Semi-Autonomous Driving Vehicle

The news surrounding Proton’s next entry into its lineup of iconic homegrown vehicles is making headlines nowadays. Offering a tease to car-lovers and local aficionados alike in recent Merdeka ad, the national carmaker has finally given a first look at this new vehicle ahead of its official launch.

Say hello to the Proton X50!

The NeXt Gen of Proton Is Coming!

Thus far, released information on the CKD locally-assembled lineup has given us a hint on what’s to come — the X50 SUV will consist of four variants which include the Standard, Executive, and Premium, as well as the range-topping model, aptly named the Flagship.

The car itself is a near-recreation of the Geely Binyue or Coolray as it is otherwise known as in other markets. But apart from that, the new Proton model does have flashes of iconic features of Proton’s yesteryears.

Let’s take a quick run-through here — the grille has been replaced by a gloss black Infinite Weave with, of course, the Proton roundel imbued on the grille, wheels, and almost everywhere else. Plus, there’s also a Proton script placed on the tailgate chrome garnish, as well as the headlights.

But otherwise, the X50 is identical to the aforementioned Binyue — and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. After all, the Binyue is a handsome looking car on its own right.
